The relation between knowledge and technophily does not exist. At the
contrary, resistance to technological change is more important in high
education societies –these societies correspond more to what Beck calls
“risk societies”. Technocritics are not at all ignorant; they generally
have quite a high level of education.
The problem is that institutions generally still believe in the
“deficit model”. They misunderstand public’s so-called misunderstanding
of sciences as shown by Brian Wynne, from the University of Lancaster.
Hence, a communication strategy based on the deficit model may yield negative results.
Technophobes vrs technophiles
ReplyDeleteTechnophobes
Those who dispute the claim of universal benefits from new information and communications technologies are often called technophobes, but the evidence shows they may be right after all. The prevailing view that the more technology we have, the better off we are, just isn't borne out by the evidence. "It's like claiming that owning a personal digital assistant will automatically make you more organized."
Furthermore, the notion much favored by managers that information science and technology is going to change your job for the better – so you should get with the program – that idea doesn't stand up to scrutiny either.
Conducted a review of the literature on the relationships between information and communications technologies and the larger social context in which these new technologies exist.
Technophilia
Refers generally to a strong enthusiams for technology, especially new technologies such as personal computers, the internet, mobile phones and home cinema. The term is used in sociology when examining the interaction of individuals with their society, especially contrasted with technophobia.
Technophilia and technophobia are the two extremes of the relationship between tecnology and society. The technophobe fears or dislikes technology, often regarding some or all technology with fear. This may be as a consequences of fear of change, a prior catastrophic experience with technology or because it may lead to a process of deshumanization. The technophile sees most or all technology as positive, adopting technology enthusiastically, and seeing it as a means to potentially improve life and combat social problems.

Aphasia
ReplyDeleteIs an impairment of language ability. This class oflanguage disorder ranges from having difficulty remembering words to being completely unable to speak, read, or write.
Aphasia disorders usually develop quickly as a result ofhead injury or stroke, but can develop slowly from a brain tumor, infection, ordementina, or can be a learning disability such asdysomia.
The area and extent of brain damage determine the type of aphasia and its symptoms. Aphasia types include ,non fluent aphasia, motor aphasia, expressive aphasia, receptive aphasia, global aphasia and many others.
Medical evaluations for the disorder range from clinical screenings by aneuologist to extensive tests by a speech-language Pathology.
Most aphasia patients can recover some or most skills by working with a Speech-Language Pathologist. This rehabilitation can take two or more years and is most effective when begun quickly. Only a small minority will recover without therapy, such as those suffering a mini-stroke. Patients with a learning-disorder aphasia such as dysnomia can learn coping skills, but cannot recover abilities that are congenitally limited.
Improvement varies widely, depending on the aphasia's cause, type, and severity. Recovery also depends on the patient's age, health, motivation, handedness, and educational level.
Damage to a region of the motor association cortex in the left frontal lobe (Broca's area) disrupts the ability to speak. It causes Broca's aphasia, a language disorder characterized by slow, laborious, non-fluent speech.
Dyslexia
Is a very broad term defining alearning disability that impairs a person's fluency or comprehension accuracy in being able to read, and which can manifest itself as a difficulty withphonologycal awareness, phonologycal decoding, orthograhic coding, auditory short-term memory, orrapid naming. Dyslexia is separate and distinct from reading difficulties resulting from other causes, such as a non-neurological deficiency with vision or hearing, or from poor or inadequate reading instruction. It is believed that dyslexia can affect between 5 and 10 percent of a given population although there have been no studies to indicate an accurate percentage.
